Why is a circle grey or missing?

You opened a report and one of the five circles is grey, or there are only four circles instead of five. Nothing is broken. VeriScout hides a score rather than inventing one, and the gap tells you something in its own right.

Consistency is grey — "not yet scoreable"

There are too few seasons on record to judge how evenly this player plays. Consistency is a question about patterns over years; with one or two seasons there is no pattern yet, only a snapshot.

What to do: read Reliability and Current Form instead, and treat the profile as young rather than as risky. The total matches and years-of-data figures in the snapshot at the top tell you the same story in numbers.

Current Form is grey — "No recent matches"

The player has not appeared for their club recently. We show nothing rather than a near-zero score, because a very low Form number would make an injured career starter look like a player nobody wants — and we cannot see the difference between those two situations.

What to do: this is the one grey state worth a phone call. Scroll to Recent match history to see when the appearances stop, then ask the club or the representative why. An absence has a reason, and the reason is not in the data.

Trajectory is missing entirely

The circle is not grey, it is simply not there, and the others spread out to fill the row. This happens when a player has only ever played at one level. Trajectory measures direction, and a career at a single level has none to measure.

What to do: nothing. It is common for young players who have come through one club's youth system, and it is not a negative signal.

A young player showing only two or three circles

Expected, and honest. A first-season player has a short record, so several questions cannot be answered yet. Judge them on what is there — usually Form, Reliability and the Match Score — and lean more heavily on your own film than you would with a six-season profile.

Why we do it this way

A number implies we measured something. Where we have not measured it, a grey circle is the truthful answer, and it lets you see immediately which parts of a report to lean on. Every score in VeriScout is a claim about the record; we would rather show fewer claims than weaker ones.
