Why can't I find a player?

You searched a name and nothing came back. Almost always it is one of four things.

1. The wrong country is selected

Search runs inside one country at a time — you pick the country first, then type the name. If the country is wrong, you will find nothing even though the record exists.

Worth checking whether the player is where you think. A Danish name might play in Germany, an Icelandic player might be at a Dutch club, and dual-national players are easy to misplace. Try the country of the club they currently play for, not the country of their passport.

2. The spelling is a long way off

Search is fuzzy, so partial names and near-miss spellings normally work. But a name transcribed from a conversation can land far enough from the official record to miss.

  • Check the spelling against the club's official squad page.
  • Try the full legal name — players known as "Nico" or "Mati" are recorded in full.
  • Try each half of a double surname on its own.
  • Accents (ø, æ, å, ó, š) are handled either way, so those are not the problem.

3. The player's country is not covered

Coverage is 24 countries, grouped into four bundles. If a player has only ever played outside them, we hold no record — and that is different from a blurred report, which means we do have the player and you simply do not have the bundle. See Bundles & country coverage for the full list.

4. There is genuinely no verified record yet

Some players have no official league record to index: very young players, players whose only football has been at a level that does not publish match records, or someone who has just joined a club and not yet appeared.

This one is worth pausing on. If a representative describes a substantial career and we hold nothing at all, that gap is itself information.

Still stuck?

Email hello@veri-scout.com with the player's name, club and country. We will tell you whether the player is in the database, whether the country is covered, or whether it is on the way.
